Bothell/Brier WA

Bothell, Washington, is a community of approximately 35,000 residents that is a part of the Seattle metropolitan area. Just to the west of Bothell is Brier, another suburban community with about 6,500 inhabitants. Although these towns have long been known as bedroom communities, a high-tech sector has rapidly evolved in the area over the past two decades.

History

Prior to the arrival of those of European descent, what is now known as the Sammamish River Valley was home to the Sammamish people. The first two settlers filed claims here in 1870. George Wilson and Columbus Greenleaf then constructed homes here. The area slowly attracted others, including eight families that arrived over a span of the next six years. In 1876, a logging camp was built in what is today downtown Bothell. A store and sawmill soon followed, and the railroad arrived in 1888.

Parks and Recreation

The two communities offer hundreds of acres of parks and green space, including well-appointed sports complexes. Those that love hiking or biking will find a well-developed system of trails here. For example, the Burke Gliman Trail and the Sammamish River Trail wind their way along the Sammamish River. These trails extend from Seattle's Hiram M. Chittenden Locks all the way to Marymoor Park.
