Lynnwood, Washington is a community of about 37,000 in Snohomish County, 16 miles north of Seattle. Lynnwood has become the retail hub of the southern part of the county. Alderwood Mall is a major regional shopping center. Lynnwood is strategically situated at the junction between Interstate 405 and Interstate 5. Lynnwood is home to both Central Washington University and Edmonds Community College. History

About 80 years ago, the area was platted as a series of single-acre residential lots. Many of the classic early residences remain to this day. The community was originally part of a large, unincorporated community called Alderwood Manor. Lynwood was incorporated in 1959. The name borrowed from "Alderwood" while also honoring the name of the developer's wife, "Lynn."

Parks and Recreation

Scriber Lake Park offers a unique floating boardwalk among its amenities. There's a walking trail that is 0.8-mile long. The lake offers visitors a peaceful respite amidst ample waterfowl and wildlife. This is the lake where the first settler here built his cabin long ago. Lynnwood Golf Course is a sporty and scenic 18-hole, executive style course. The par-65 layout measures 4,741 yards long, and it features numerous sand bunkers and water hazards. Attractions and Activities

The 2.82-acre Heritage Park celebrates the social, agricultural and transportation history of the neighborhoods that once comprised Alderwood Manor. Exhibits allow that visitor to step back in time to 1919, when the one-time rural community was first founded.

Events

Celebrate! is a city-sponsored event that's held in mid-July. This music and dance festival showcases the heritage, art and culture of the community. Art demos, interactive dance and a rodeo add variety to this community event. The beer and wine garden is a popular destination as the live music cranks up in the evening.
